Empty Nesters For A Week

The kids are visiting friends this week in Virginia – their first trip “abroad” without the parents. I’m sure they are having a ball, seeing old friends and visiting. My husband and I are getting a little taste of living without our children. From what I hear, you experience sadness and then settle into your time alone. It’s now been 24 hours and so far we’ve probably discussed the kids at least 20 times. Maybe by the end of the week, we’ll be down to five times a day. I doubt that will happen. Sophie, our black lab, seems to know that things are a bit different this week as well. Since it doesn’t effect her life’s comforts such as naps and meals, Oreo, our cat, couldn’t care less if there are two or four residents in the house.
